The College of Psychologists of Ontario is the governing body for Psychologists and Psychological Associates in Ontario. The College is not a university, school or community college; its mandate is to protect your interests by monitoring and regulating the practice of psychology. COUNCIL MEETINGS Mar 24 2017 Jun 23 2017 Sep 15 2017 VIEW ALL Through the participation of the public and the profession, the College ensures you receive competent and ethical professional psychological services from qualified providers. The Council of the College of Psychologists of Ontario consists of ten professional members elected or appointed by the profession from across the province and five to eight members of the public appointed by the Ontario Government. The Council sets policies and provides leadership and direction. The Council meets four times a year and meetings are open to the public. The structure of the College reflects its varied roles in fulfilling its public protection mandate. Through its committees, the College carries out its various responsibilities, such as: Setting requirements for entry to practice and administering the oral and written registration examinations; Registering qualified Psychologists and Psychological Associates; Setting and monitoring practice standards and ethical behaviour of the profession; Administering the Quality Assurance program and ensuring continued competence of the profession; Providing educational materials and information to the public and the profession regarding the practice of psychology; Investigating complaints and addressing concerns about the quality of service delivered that have not been resolved satisfactorily between you and your practitioner. As responsible members of the profession, Psychologists and Psychological Associates adhere to the standards of the College and are accountable to the public to provide ethical and competent services. At times, you may have questions or concerns about the services you have received. These situations are usually handled by talking with your Psychologist or Psychological Associate, or with the individual to whom they report. If you are not satisfied with the resolution provided by your Psychologist or Psychological Associate and you still have concerns, you may contact the College. Its job is to protect the public and regulate the profession of psychology. The College has a complaints and discipline process available to investigate complaints and take appropriate action. You should be aware that the profession maintains a zero tolerance policy for any form of sexual abuse of clients by members. Such conduct by a Psychologist or Psychological Associate is always unacceptable.
