The Consultant, Virtual Learning Support Service will establish a sustainable and responsive virtual learning support service for students to address specific gaps in virtual learning and support. This role will develop a centralized service that serves as a streamlined gateway to just-in-time services for students, leveraging existing services and initiating new supports as allowed by available budget and resources.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies to establish a sustainable and responsive virtual learning support service for students including but not limited to augmenting and maintaining the VLS website.Assess student support needs and gaps to develop the virtual learning support service.Identify, liaise, and build partnerships with student support areas at Langara.Develop a streamlined referral point to which faculty can refer students.Develop educational resources for students including online tools and workshops as appropriate to the project scope and objectives.Develop a small-scale student peer coaching program focused on online learning support.Develop and implement an assessment plan for the project to determine efficacy and uptick of activities, services, and collaborations.Collaborate with relevant Langara departments and services to address equity, diversity and inclusion gaps for students as appropriate to the project scope and objectives.Develop and maintain an effective web presence including social media.Provide direction and supervision to staff and possibly student workers.Qualifications
Masters degree in education or related field.A combination of relevant teaching and/or administrative experience in a diverse post-secondary environment.Experience in following:Online teaching or providing online support for students;Developing resources for online learning and/or training;Incorporating user-centered design for the online environment.Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments to deliver a service.Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, interests, and abilities.Experience in project management or coordinating new initiatives involving multiple partners preferred.Experience in supervising staff and/or students preferred.Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other.Ability to monitor, record, analyze and report on trends and results.Ability to foster effective communication and teamwork among employees, facilitating. understanding of individual, team, and organizational goals.Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities when encountering conflicting demands.Excellent research and instructional design skills.Knowledgeable about different cultures and integration issues.Demonstrated intercultural sensitivity and adaptation skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
