We currently have a full-time opportunity for an Intermediate Power Systems Engineer, based out of our Calgary office. The role will report directly to the Power Systems Team Lead Engineer.
As an Intermediate Power Systems Engineer, you will be a critical element to the delivery of power system projects by providing key design inputs, acting as a customer point of contact, managing project deliverables, liaising with equipment vendors and commissioning. Working out of the Calgary based office you will be assigned to work on a variety of projects in Western Canada, primarily in Alberta. You will be part of a larger engineering and projected management team located in Ontario and will also be exposed to other company wide technical initiatives. This position will provide an opportunity to develop a jurisdictional expertise on the Western Canadian power market.
Your responsibilities will include:
Manage delivery and oversee lifecycle implementation of revenue metering, protection and control, monitoring, power quality, and other related Power System projects and act as the technical point of contact.
Design medium and high voltage metering and protection and controls systems.
Create drawings, schematics and diagrams for electrical distribution, metering and communications systems.
Perform design and calculations related to metering and protection system configurations.
Write engineering reports, conducting feasibility studies and reviews related to energy services projects.
Develop and approve vendor equipment specifications.
Participate in field commissioning activities of electrical subsystems comprising of protection relays, meters, monitoring and power quality equipment and other ancillary electrical distribution components such as switchgear, instrumentation, pole mounted equipment, etc.
Act as a mentor to technical staff and supply training as needed.
Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders.
Provide presales technical support in the form of pricing, cost estimation, technical proposals, and solutions engineering.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in a University Electrical Engineering program or equivalent
Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA or eligible for registration in short order.
Strong background in Power Systems as demonstrated by theoretical knowledge, best practices, knowledge of standards, electrical safety practises and grounding.
Proficiency in power simulation software performing a variety of electrical studies, such as Load Flow, Short Circuit Analysis, Transient Analysis, Sizing studies, et is an asset.
Experience with ETAP or equivalen
Knowledge of Electricity Distribution Systems and Transmission connected substations.
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, Mathcad, MATLAB and other engineering software will be an asset.
Knowledge of power system equipment, specifications, standards and procurement logistics.
A background in construction or commissioning of electrical systems is an asset.
Minimum of 5 year’s work experience preferably in power distribution, generation, design-build and/or consulting industries.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skill
Strong customer service orientation, self-motivated, and strong organizational capabilities.
Knowledge of the wholesale power markets is an asset.
