About the Role

The Health Simulation Learning Centre Manager provides effective leadership in the implementation and management of simulation activities, experiential learning, active learning, and overall procedures and programs for the HSLC in the Faculty of Health, Community and Education. Supporting the implementation and evaluation of programs delivered through the Centre, the manager also oversees its daily operations and an operating budget assigned to the HSLC and maintains fiscal accountability. 

This position also provides oversight of the Child Development Lab in the Child Studies and Social Work Department and the Athletic Therapy Lab, Exercise Science Lab, and the Physical Literacy Lab in the Health and Physical Education Department.


  • Provide effective staffing and scheduling
  • Monitor and maintain budget
  • Oversee appropriate equipment and supply purchasing
  • Ensure a safe practice environment
  • Develop and implement operational policies
  • Maintain current knowledge on simulation theory, practice and implementation 
  • Develop and implement tools to evaluate non-academic operations of the Health Simulation Learning Centre
  • Maintain membership on committees that impact simulation (e.g., curriculum, leadership, etc.)
  • Support and participate in research activities 
  • Engage in and support quality improvement projects
  • Participate in School and departmental meetings and projects to understand stakeholder needs
  • Qualifications 

  • University master’s degree or equivalent
  • Registered Nurse in Alberta
  • This is a leadership role within the Faculty of Health, Community and Education (including the School of Nursing and Midwifery) therefore advanced nursing practice competencies are required to fulfill administrative, clinical, educational and research requirements within the role. 
  • Active license with College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta
  • Current Basic Life Support
  • Experience with simulation
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Very good understanding of the relevant clinical and community environments
  • Excellent managerial skills, building and maintaining relationships, strong professional demeanour, highly motivated, independent and collaborative practices
