Job Description:
The Fine Arts department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University seeks highly motivated and organized individuals for on-call Instructional Associate positions to provide studio and lab support for the following portfolio:
1. ceramics and print media
a. Ceramic experience includes but not limited to: loading and firing of electric kilns, low and high fire. Some knowledge of raku, wood and soda firings preferred. Glaze/slip technology and testing a must. Experience with handbuilding, coilbuilding, throwing and slip casting.
b. Printmaking processes include etching with ferric chloride, Toyobo photo-etching, photo stencil screenprint, digital imaging with Photoshop and Illustrator, linocut and collagraph.
This is a casual position for occasional short term coverage.
Qualified candidates will have completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts from a publicly accredited post-secondary institution or equivalent combination of education with experience and knowledge of the techniques and safety aspects involved with: painting, drawing, photography, digital media, Mac Labs, and two-dimensional design; ceramics and print media; and/or woodshop, metal shop, and sculpture. Prior experience assisting in a 2-D or 3-D department at a post-secondary institution is required and preference will be given to applicants with active involvement in the local art community. Duties include assisting students in the various labs, familiarity with techniques, organizing materials, and general troubleshooting in an art department.
Starting rate for this position is approximately $27/hr.
