About the role:
Manage all aspects of medium to large scale projects, from start to finish, so that it is completed on time and within budget. Design, communicate, and implement an operational plan for completing a project; monitor progress and performance against the project plan; resolve operational problems, minimize delays. Identify, develop, and gather necessary resources to complete the project. Prepare designs and work specifications; develop schedules, budgets and forecasts; select materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors. Estimate costs, resources, and time required to complete. Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to ensure targets are met. Liaise with other areas in the organization to secure specialized resources and contributions for the project. Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team.
Location: this role will start out as a full-time, work from home position, but will eventually transition to an office-based position with work from home flexibility.
You are great at:
Managing medium to large scale initiatives through the Project Management Lifecycle (initiation to implementation) in collaboration with required departments leads to deliver the required product(s) for each initiative.
Reviewing and supporting the business case and build project documentation (e.g., Project Charter/scope, requirements, work breakdown structure, milestones/schedules, governance/roles &responsibilities etc.) in collaboration with the project sponsor(s), involved stakeholders, and the project team, ensuring that the project is set up for success.
Ensuring compliance to AGA’s policies, risk assessment form and project management framework, methodology/standards by ensuring that project management processes, discipline, and controls are consistently applied to projects.
Identifying and managing interdependencies and linkages between disparate projects.
Identifying appropriate resources needed, assembling the project team, assigning individual responsibilities, and developing the schedule to ensure timely completion of the project.
Developing schedules, budgets and forecasts; selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors. Estimating costs, resources, and time required to complete.
Ensuring the project remains appropriately resourced throughout the lifecycle and all members on the team are adequately trained and supported; prioritizing and managing own workload and the workload of project team members in order to deliver quality results and meet timelines.
Managing the activities of cross-functional project teams in the execution of the project plan; teams could include members from across the organization as well as third parties.
Ensuring effective communication mechanisms are in place (aligned to the project governance model in effect); manage all communication to key stakeholders providing accurate and timely information exchange between the teams, stakeholders, Project Management Steering Committee, Group Project Portfolio Office etc.
Monitoring and reporting project progress utilizing portfolio application (e.g.: schedule performance, financial performance, etc.) as defined by the Project Management Steering Committee and Group PPO.
Proactively managing risks, and resolve or escalate issues in a timely manner.
Facilitating problem solving and control changes to project baselines (e.g.: scope) through accepted change management practices.
Supporting the Project Management Steering Committee project/initiative prioritization process as appropriate (e.g., development of business case, QA of project proposals/estimates, analyzing feasibility and sequencing).
Actively supporting the rollout of additional portfolio management processes and tools as defined by the Zone and Group Project Portfolio Offices.
What it takes:
College Degree/Diploma coupled with a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing medium to large-scale sized projects.
PMP designation or nearing completion of designation required.
Proven project management success required.
Sound knowledge of project management techniques, tools and methodologies.
Intermediate level skill in using MS Excel/MS Access/MS Project.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to present information to a variety of individuals in a clear and concise manner, at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead people, get results through others and provide coaching/constructive feedback.
