*DUE TO COVID WE ARE CURRENTLY FULLY REMOTE AND OPEN TO CANDIDATES INTERNATIONALLY*
At Lighthouse Labs we aim to empower our students to master the craft of software development. Are you an Intermediate-Senior level full-stack Developer and a natural teacher who loves sharing knowledge and the idea of making a difference in the lives of students? If this sounds like you we’d love to chat about our teaching and mentoring opportunities at Lighthouse Labs!
What You’ll be Doing
Teach and mentor our curriculum on your own terms. We structure our teaching opportunities so you can be as passive or active as you like, working anywhere from 3-20 hours a week from the comfort of your own home. Providing one-on-one hands on mentorship is the most common way devs get started with Lighthouse Labs, and opportunities for lecturing, running tech interviews with students, and evaluating projects and assignments are additional ways to scale up your involvement with us. For the remainder of 2020, we are looking for applicants who are available to work 12pm-5pm EST and/or 12pm-5pm PST Monday to Thursday. Shifts outside those hours are available to pick up.
We encourage applications from candidates of colour, women, queer candidates, candidates with family caregiving responsibilities, immigrant candidates, transgender candidates, and candidates with disabilities
What we offer:
A flexible schedule and a consistent time commitment that works around your current job/ freelancing gigs/ side projects/ startup. (We want you to keep coding and contributing to community!)
Working alongside our community of 80+ developers who mentor and instruct with us who work at leading companies and startups across Canada
Hourly compensation from $30-$40 per hour*
*depending on experience level, tenure + involvement level
Mentors don’t need to have had formal training. They also don’t need to come in knowing every technology we teach. We have a dynamic curriculum and devs can learn and ramp up in parallel with mentoring on the floor.
2-5 years of professional experience in software development, with all or most of that time focused in web development
Preference for open source web languages and tools.
We really like jQuery, Rails, React, NodeJS + (Express or Koa) but many of our mentors also have other backgrounds such as Django, , MeteorJS, Elixir + Phoenix, Scala, AngularJS, Ember,
Strong preference for *nix operating systems
Have strong sense of open source development workflows using tools such as Github
